The Community Scholarship Foundation of La Cañada Flintridge has announced that the 2017 scholarship applications are now available. CSF is a community-supported foundation established in 1964 with the goal of enabling any student to attend college, university or a trade/technical school upon completion of his or her secondary school studies. Fulltime students who attend La Cañada High School, Flintridge Prep, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Hillside School and Learning Center, St. Francis High School and Crescenta Valley High School, regardless of home residency, are eligible to apply for scholarships. The La Cañada Junior Women’s Club will hold its annual gala fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6-11 p.m. The Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball promises to be lively and fun while raising money for a great cause.
The party, to be held at the La Cañada Country Club, will feature an evening that includes a Mardi Gras-themed buffet, a silent auction, a “wine toss” and dancing the night away as DJ Dean spins lively tunes.
Tickets are $50 per person. Funds go toward the support of Pasadena’s Ronald McDonald House and Five Acres Altadena, the two philanthropies that Juniors supports. For reservations, send an RSVP to email@example.com.
Mary K. DeLurgio, a longtime La Cañada Flintridge resident, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 10, after a protracted battle with cancer. Mary K. was born in Mexico City on May 2, 1937. She was an accomplished author of two books and was a Marriage and Family Therapist in La Cañada Flintridge for more than 45 years. Donald Walter Brown, 87, of La Cañada Flintridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, Dec. 6, at his home. Don was born in Bergen County, New Jersey in 1929 to Walter and Elizabeth (Egan) Brown. He was the oldest of three children. He graduated from Pennington School in 1947, where he was a dedicated and successful athlete, and went on to graduate with a civil engineering degree from Colorado State A&M in 1956, following his service in the U.S. Army. Kathryn Mary (Campbell) Ryan passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in La Cañada Flintridge on Dec. 13 after 81 blessed years.
Kathryn “Kay” was born in Detroit, Mich. on March 25, 1935, to Harry and Julia (Lynn) Campbell. She was the first of three children. Her younger brothers Alex and Harry followed soon after. Continue reading “Obituary: Kathryn Mary Ryan”
The San Marino Griffins Lions Club and the San Marino High School Leo Club will sponsor a student speaker contest on Feb. 5, from 1-4 p.m. at Crowell Public Library. Students from all local public and private high schools are encouraged to participate. Each year a different subject is selected by the Lion Multiple District Four Student Speaker Committee.
