Tournament of Roses 2018 President Lance Tibbet has announced 20 outstanding equestrian groups to ride in the 129th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed “Making a Difference.”

Friends In Deed returns to Castle Green on Sept. 27 for its annual fundraiser, Jazz on the Green. From 5:30-8:30 p.m., guests will experience the smooth sounds of jazz while perusing silent auction opportunities.
Honorees for the event include the Rev. Donna Byrns, Friends In Deed Community Liaison; San Marino Community Church; and Western Rooter. The Lake Avenue Community Foundation’s “Stars For Tomorrow” annual benefit will be held at the Rose Bowl on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the STARS after-school and mentoring programs.
The benefit will begin with a reception at the stadium’s Court of Champions, followed by dinner and live auction inside the UCLA home team locker room.
Live auction items include a Tournament of Roses New Year’s Day VIP package (including Rose Bowl game tickets, Rose Parade tickets, VIP passes to the Rose Bowl Tailgate Luncheon and VIP parking); tickets to an upcoming Coldplay concert (including dinner) at the Rose Bowl; superb Dodger Dugout Club tickets behind home plate; a six-course meal and wine pairing for eight people at a lovely Pasadena home; a one-week Hawaiian vacation in a gorgeous estate on the Big Island; and a one-week vacation to a beautiful beach resort in Cancun.

The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk returns to Pasadena this fall with an important message for all to get Healthy for Good.
The annual event — scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Rose Bowl -— kicks off with a health and wellness festival featuring fun heart-pumping activities at 7:30 a.m., followed by a 5K walk at 9 a.m. and post-walk party at 9:30 a.m.
Team up with family, friends and coworkers and take steps together to live healthier and fight heart disease, the nation’s No. 1 killer, and stroke, the leading cause of serious long-term disability. There is no fee to join, but participants are encouraged to help raise funds for the mission of building healthier lives, free of heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
The Heart Walk is part of the AHA’s Healthy for Good movement, which aims to rally people to live healthier lives, inspire lasting change and unite the community around the simple idea that making a small change today will create a difference for generations to come.

Huntington Hospital has once again been recognized as a Best Hospital for 2017-18 in Los Angeles and California by U.S. News & World Report. The annual Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 28th year, are part of U.S. News’ patient portal, designed to help patients make informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions or for common elective procedures.
Huntington Hospital was named the fourth best hospital in the greater Los Angeles area. The hospital was also named ninth best hospital overall in California and was ranked among the best in the country in gynecology and urology.
Huntington Hospital was also ranked best regional hospital in 15 types of care, with recognition as high-performing in seven adult specialties — diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatric, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology; and in eight common adult procedures and conditions — aortic valve surgery, heart bypass, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.

From 1974 to 1994, Maldonado’s Restaurant was an enchanting elegant destination featuring fine dining and entertainment.
