Chandler School students in kindergarten through 5th-grade performed the traditional Lower School winter sing last week, which was themed “Babushka.” Directors Will Salmon and Brandi Williams-Moore led students through a show at the First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, where parents, grandparents and siblings gathered to enjoy the concert.
Kindergartners, dressed in wintery pajamas, sang “Jingle Bells,” “Hanukkah, Hanukkah,” “Happy Holiday,” and “All Night, All Day,” an African-American spiritual. Students sang several songs in Spanish, including the 2nd grade’s “Más Allá, Navidad” and a whole-school sing-along, “Los Tres Reyes Magos.”
Fifth-grade girls Emmie Hewlett, Anna Kleindorfer, Ella Moriarty, Chloe Palmer and Heidi Repp performed amusing skits and songs as traditional Russian babushkas during each grade-level transition. John Atkinson worked the sound and Alexander Lansburg accompanied students on the piano.
The all-school finale, “When the Lights All Shine,” brought cheers of surprise and appreciation as students clicked on their finger lights and illuminated the stage.
