ChapCare Golf Tournament Set for Aug. 29

First published in the Aug. 11 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

ChapCare will host its third annual “Swing Fore Health” golf tournament, teeing-off on Monday, Aug. 29, at Glendora Country Club, 2400 Country Club Drive, Glendora.
Proceeds from this year’s fundraising event, which will run from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., will help cover the cost of medical services for more than 3,000 financially struggling low-income and uninsured individuals and families who can’t afford health insurance. ChapCare continues to treat these patients regardless of their inability to pay, providing over $1 million in uncompensated care annually.
Community partners still looking to get involved in the charity event to help raise funds for this cause, can register for the tournament’s “Tees for Charity” program. This program allows ChapCare to reach the goal of raising $125,000 to support uninsured patient care. “Tees for Charity” is a way to unite as a community, coming together to eradicate health-care inequities, making health care accessible to all.
The program allows everyone to participate at any level, any dollar amounts and will make a big difference. Supporters at this level will receive a Tee-sign on the course during the tournament, offering great brand visibility, while making an impact on many lives.
“‘Tees for Charity’ provides local partners the opportunity to engage with us and help raise important funds for this cause,” said Margaret Martinez, ChapCare’s CEO. “Thousands of underserved members of our community rely on ChapCare and the support of local partners for their health and well-being. Being involved with ‘Tees for Charity’ helps continue the important work and essential services we provide to our community. Unequal access to health care and socio-economic barriers are obstacles we seek to break and we can’t do it without the community’s support. Help us change that narrative.”
ChapCare gives thanks to the “Swing Fore Health” golf tournament lead sponsors: CIT Bank, Global IT Communications, Silicon Valley Bank and Kaiser Permanente for their support in making this event possible. ChapCare also appreciates elected officials for their continued support, including L.A. County 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger and U.S. Congresswoman Judy Chu of the 27th District.
ChapCare’s Golf Tournament will take place during the day and it will be followed by a cocktail reception, silent auction, music and formal dinner in the evening with a short program.
“We are very excited to be returning to Glendora Country Club, where we will have an engaging program for the entire day. Tournament players can win a trip to one of three famed courses as part of the exhibition by Heather Manfredda, 2013 Women’s World Long Drive Champion with six world long-drive appearances and four international wins,” said Phillip Hain, ChapCare’s director of development.
“We are honored to be leading the efforts and working with such a great committee to help ChapCare,” said co-chairs Dr. Terre Osterkamp and Ursula Moore.
Osterkamp added: “As a ChapCare physician who works directly with patients, I see the challenges many of them face, and I am inspired to do whatever I can to make this event a success so we can offer the best care possible.”
Community partners are also invited to join the evening program and get a chance to hear ChapCare member stories, speakers and mingle with local leaders and influencers. Confirmed for attendance is state Sen. Anthony Portantino of the 25th District.
