The Pasadena community recently joined the Pasadena Fire Foundation and the city’s Fire Department for an inaugural awards ceremony and charity fundraiser at Brookside Golf Club.
The evening honored department and community members for their valiant efforts to keep Pasadena safe. Fire Chief Bertral Washington presented awards to Firefighter of the Year Capt. Salim Haddad and Employee of the Year Stephanie Chang, a management analyst IV. The Life Saving Award was presented to Maura Heckman. Several more medals and forms of meritorious recognition were presented to department personnel who have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
The nearly 220 guests had an opportunity to directly impact the mission of the department and its foundation by supporting the Fire Explorers youth program. Explorer Aaron Nunez — who will be attending the Verdugo Fire Academy starting in January — was presented with a $1,000 scholarship. It was a night filled with fun, community service, and collaboration to help ensure we honor our community heroes and community partners committed to improving public safety.
