Fulcrum Arts (formerly Pasadena Arts Council) recently celebrated its first year under a new name at its annual benefit, held this year at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena. More than 150 attendees gathered to support Fulcrum Arts’ mission to empower artists to invent, inspire and provoke.
Following in the footsteps of its former Gold Crown and AxS awards, the organization honored scientists from LIGO (the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), and acclaimed experimental composer William Basinski.
Congresswoman Judy Chu helped kick off the evening to thunderous applause, acknowledging the intersection of art and science so unique to Pasadena’s DNA.
Attendees were treated to exclusive tours of the Carnegie campus, led by Carnegie Director John Mulchaey and Strategic Initiatives coordinator Erica Clark, and the evening culminated in the performance of “Selva Oscura,” a new collaborative work by Basinski and Australian artist Lawrence English.
