Lisa Fungo and Brian McDermott recently were named the 2017-18 Rose Harrington Educators of the Year, an honor that was established in 2002 by a bequest to the LCFEF Endowment Fund from the estate of Rose Harrington, local resident and teacher.
Fungo is a 6th-grade teacher at La Cañada Elementary and McDermott is a math teacher at La Cañada High School.
Harrington’s wishes were that a committee appointed by the LCFEF Endowment Fund’s trustees annually award $5,000 to an outstanding LCUSD educator whose contributions in the classroom often exceed expectations.
Since the initial award was made in 2002, the gift has grown to the point where two awards have been able to be given in the past two years and the award amount has been adjusted for inflation to $6,882 per recipient.
Nominations are open to the public and take place each year. For more information, visit lcfef.org/Rose-Harrington-Award.
