Gooden School Appoints New Head

The Gooden School will welcome its sixth head of school, Carl Parke, this summer. Parke, currently head of school at LaGrange Academy in LaGrange, Ga., begins his tenure on July 1. Parke will succeed interim head of school Merrily Dunlap.

“After an extensive nationwide search for a head of school, we are pleased that Parke will be joining us,” said Nadilee Russell, chair of the Gooden School board of trustees. “The combination of his experience as head of school, service to the independent school community, and understanding of a small and nurturing school atmosphere made him an ideal fit for Gooden.”
Parke previously served as head of the upper school and dean of students at the Altamont School in Birmingham, Ala.; as a faculty member at the University of South Florida and Tampa Preparatory in Florida; and as dean of students at Oxbridge Academics in Cambridge, England.
He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Valdosta State University and a master’s in history from the University of South Florida. In addition, he has been a presenter at regional and national independent school conferences and attended the Klingenstein Center Heads of School program at Columbia University.
Parke is also an active volunteer at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in LaGrange and a Rotary Club member.
