The Huntington Middle School orchestras recently played to a crowded auditorium of family and friends who took a break from the bustle of holiday shopping and parties to enjoy an evening of music. Attendees who came early sampled complimentary Christmas cookies, pastries and coffee. The audience was entertained by classical, contemporary and holiday selections to please a wide range of musical tastes under the direction of conductor and teacher Rob Folsom. The Beginning Orchestra showed off its rapidly developing talent with a performance of “Colossus: followed up by the spiritual favorite, “Amazing Grace.” The Intermediate Orchestra delighted the audience with the holiday classic “Trepak” from the “Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky as well as works by Vivaldi and Mozart. Corey Sy, concertmaster of the Intermediate Orchestra, performed the solo during “Momentium” by Paul Barker. The evening continued with an impressive performance by the Chamber Orchestra. Seven of the talented young students soloed during the “Brandenburg Concerto” led by concertmaster Isaac Roberts. The evening concluded with the inspirational pieces “Ava Maria” and “Christmas Eve Sarajevo” to leave the audience in the Christmas spirit.
