The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ basketball team proved its ready to take on the Rio Hondo League by defeating Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, 44-38, in the San Fernando Valley Hoops Showcase at Mission Hills Alemany High last Saturday.
Sean Estes scored a team-high 21 points to lead the Spartans to their 12th victory of the season. Senior guard Justin Kouyoumdjian chipped in with 12 points.
La Cañada (12-4 overall record) opened Rio Hondo League play at home against Pasadena Blair on Wednesday. The Spartans then travel to Monrovia for a league contest on Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m.
Flintridge Prep 72
Lynwood Firebaugh 31
Three members of the Flintridge Prep varsity boys’ basketball team scored in double figures to lift the Rebels over visiting Lynwood Firebaugh, 72-31, in a Prep League game last Friday.
Jake Althouse led Prep with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jonny Samuels added 15 points. Kendall Kikkawa totaled 14 points and 12 assists, Leo Reilly had eight points, Jonathan Le netted four points, Beau Detchemendy had three points, and Cameron Wu, Jonathan Qu and Majeed Ismail contributed two points each.
Flintridge Prep (5-6 overall record, 0-2 in league) will travel to Palos Verdes to take on Chadwick in a league game this Friday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
St. Francis 66
The Golden Knights defeated Canyon High of Canyon Country, 66-58, in the San Fernando Valley Showcase at Mission Hills Alemany last Saturday.
Andre Henry led the Golden Knights with 10 points and five rebounds.
St. Francis improved to 10-5 on the season (0-2 in league) and will travel to Los Angeles to take on Loyola in a Mission League contest this Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m.
