Mariachi Women in History Fundraising Fiesta

In honor of Women’s History Month and in partnership with the Women’s City Club of Pasadena, Mariachi Women’s Foundation and Soroptimist International Altadena/Pasadena are hosting a Mariachi Women in History Fundraising Fiesta and cultural celebration to be held on Friday, March 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the historic 1906 Blinn House.
The little-known history of women in mariachi music will be revealed in a visual presentation of vintage photographs and authentic costumes by an expert on this topic, Leonor Xochitl Perez. Perez is the director and founder of the Mariachi Women’s Foundation and has presented both nationally and internationally, including the University of British Columbia, Kazakh National University of Arts, USC, UC Santa Cruz and the Women’s Museum of California.
Guests will see musical and dance demonstrations and entertainment by the all-female performers Mariachi Divas, Grammy-Award winners and nine-time Grammy nominees.
A “Pass the Sombrero” fundraiser and raffle will be held to raise scholarship funds for a deserving mariachi woman pursuing a college education in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The scholarship will be awarded at the fourth annual Mariachi Women’s Festival on March 25 to be held at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.
