Beloved wife of John R. Ukropina and devoted mother of Marsha Aguirre (Edward) of San Gabriel, Jan Devens (Michael) of San Diego, Rob Ukropina (Joyce) of Newport Coast, and Bill Ukropina (Linan) of Pasadena. Loving grandmother of Scott Reynolds (Ali), Katie Nafius (Ted), Tara MacMillan (Paul), Dwight Devens, Dr. Molly Hall, (Dr. Mark), Jack Ukropina, Jillian Sabaugh (Jason), Max Ukropina, Nicolas Ukropina, Grant Ukropina and Conrad Ukropina. Beloved great-grandmother of Michael MacMillan, Johnny and Emily Nafius, Malone Louise Sabaugh and Sawyer Sage Reynolds. Also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Ukropina of Pasadena (Margaret Duckhorn) and her sister-in-law Joan Barnett of Colorado and four nephews and one niece
Born in Alhambra, she was a member of a pioneer San Gabriel Valley family. She graduated from Alhambra High School and Pasadena City College. She was a 37-year resident of San Marino until she and her husband, John, retired to La Quinta and Lake Tahoe in 1990. She was a member of St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church and St. Mary’s Guild and a member of St. James Episcopal Church. She was a charter member of National Charity League, San Marino Chapter, and a member of the Alhambra Historical Society. She was in the antique business for several years, specializing in Victorian antiques.
Following her husband’s death in 1993, she moved to Newport Coast where she lived until 2006. In 2006, she returned to Pasadena and lived the rest of her life in the San Gabriel Valley. Maryann was always courteous, kind and positive to all she met and her love for people will always be cherished and remembered and will be passed on to all of us.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in South Pasadena. A private interment will be at the San Gabriel Cemetery.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions to Ukropina’s memory be made to Dr. Frank Longo’s Lab — Neurology & Neurological Sciences.
