The condition affects fewer than 20,000 people in the United States per year.Mayfield’s Director of Enrollment, Lauren Marlis, learned of Tighe’s battle and responded by coordinating the blood drive effort. “Annie was expected to be at the City of Hope for a substantial amount of time, and we wanted to show Annie and her family our support. Our Mayfield community stepped up in a big way,” reflected Marlis. “We’re happy to report that Annie is now a junior in high school at Mayfield Senior School, is healthy and happy, and the spirit of her fight lives on through the drive we now have annually because there are always others in need.”Though Tighe was able to overcome her medical condition, the need for blood never ceases. The City of Hope states, “Blood and platelets are the lifeline for our patients.”Blood Drive Hosted at Mayfield Junior School:• Date: Friday, Sept. 15• Time: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.• Location: Mayfield Junior School — Hayden Performing Arts Center, 405 S.
