The Pasadena Branch of the NAACP held its 33rd annual Ruby McKnight Williams Awards Dinner recently at the Pasadena Hilton. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour and silent auction before heading into the International Ballroom for dinner. Awards were given to people who have made contributions to the community in the areas of arts, education, sports and other areas. Proceeds from the event benefit scholarships, ACTSO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) and community outreach.
Honorees included Gerald Freeny, Ruby McKnight Williams Award; Larry Mizell, Arts Award; Bill Bogaard, Civic Award; Juliana Serrano, Community Award; Wescom Credit Union/Darren Williams, Corporate Award; Michelle Bailey, Education Award; the Rev. Larry Campbell, Faith Award; Emerson Terry, President’s Award; Tim Tucker, Sports Award; Kori Carter, Youth/Young Adult Awards Sports; Phalaen Chang, ACTSO Gold Medalist, Poetry Written; and Imani Finkley ACTSO Bronze Medalist, Original Essay.
