The Pasadena Symphony 2018-19 season was announced with seven concerts for its 91st season. Concerts commence on Oct. 20 with Mozart’s Requiem through a May 4 finale featuring Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Other highlights include Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan,” a tribute to Leonard Bernstein and a Tchaikovsky Spectacular.
All concerts take place at Pasadena’s historic Ambassador Auditorium with performances at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The season also includes the annually sold-out Holiday Candlelight Concert, newly led by Music Director David Lockington, on Saturday, Dec. 15, with 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances at All Saints Church.
The Pasadena Symphony Association recently signed a new five-year musician’s contract, reinforcing its position as the area’s premiere destination for live symphonic music with an eye for long-term stability and artistic growth.
Lockington opens the 2018-19 season on Oct. 20 with Mozart’s Requiem. On Nov. 17, he celebrates three of America’s greatest composers with selections from “On the Town” and “West Side Story”by Leobard Bernstein and “Billy the Kid” by Aaron Copland. Sphinx Competition Laureate violinist Melissa White will perform the violin concerto by Samuel Barber.
The orchestra opens its season under the baton of Nicholas McGegan conducting Handel’s Water Music, Bach’s Brandenburg and Vivaldi Concertos for Baroque Masters on Jan. 26, 2019.
Lockington returns to the podium on Feb. 16, 2019, to conduct an all-Tchaikovsky Spectacular with his Symphony No. 5 and Piano Concerto No. 1 performed by Russian American pianist Olga Kern.
March roars like a lion with Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “Titan” on March 23, 2019. To close the season, celebrated violinist Anne Akiko Meyers returns on May 4 with a new violin concerto by local composer Adam Schoenberg and a performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
Guests can visit Symphony Lounge at Ambassador Auditorium’s outdoor plaza to enjoy uniquely prepared menus for lunch and dinner at each concert from Claud & Co., fine wines by Michero Family Wines, plus music before the concert and during intermission.
