Pasadena City College Foundation President Bill Hawkins welcomed guests and donors to a recent Hometown Legends event focusing on the dynamic work of artist Sigrid Burton.
The evening began with a twilight reception at the Armory Center for the Arts and an exhibition of Burton’s works. This was followed by an interview with the artist conducted by PCC’s dean of visual and media arts, Joseph Futtner.
Burton grew up in Pasadena and continues to make art in her studio in Old Pasadena. The artist is known for her use of color in paintings and mixed media works on paper. Since the mid-1970s, Burton’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her works are in numerous public and corporate collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. To a packed house, Burton recounted her fascinating career and evolution as an artist. She applauded PCC’s visual arts program and how successful the college has been in training and mentoring students of all ages in finding rewarding careers in the arts and celebrating their creativity.
