Polytechnic Edges Rival Flintridge Prep, 4-3

The Polytechnic varsity softball team rallied from a two-run deficit and defeated visiting rival Flintridge Prep, 4-3, in a Prep League game last week.
Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers got an RBI sacrifice fly from Maddie Magee and a run-scoring single from Megan Kelleher to tie the game. Poly recaptured the lead in the sixth when Ella Cornwell blasted a single to score Ali Ulin.
Pitcher Brennah Bronk retired three Rebels in the top of the seventh to pick up the win and help Poly improve to 4-0 in league. She allowed four hits, three runs and struck out seven.
Flintridge Prep (7-4 overall record, 3-3 in league) scored all of its runs in the top of the fourth inning. Melissa Grande hit an RBI single, scoring Olivia Stevens, and she later scored on an error. Libby Penn also scored for Prep and blasted a double. Pitcher Therese Oshiro was dealt the loss despite surrendering only six hits and four runs.
Poly (6-4 overall) will travel to Palos Verdes Chadwick for a game today at 3:45 p.m.
The Rebels will travel to Lynwood for a nonleague game this Saturday, April 22, at 3:15 p.m.

Mayfield Senior 3

The Cubs dropped their third Prep League game this season, falling to visiting Palos Verdes Chadwick, 7-3, last week.
Mayfield jumped out to a one run lead in the bottom of the first, but the Dolphins’ offense came to life in the third with four runs. The Cubs chipped away at the lead and trailed by one, 4-3, after five frames, but the Dolphins added three insurance runs in the final inning to hold off the home squad.
Jacqueline Baggott led Mayfield Senior with two hits, and Julia Watson added one hit, one run and one RBI. Madeline Biscaichipy drove in a run, Taylin Yankovich had a hit and scored a run, Malayna Domingo had one run and Giselle De Anda contributed one hit. Baggott, Domingo, Yankovich and Carina Grande each stole a base.
Jaylin Domingo was dealt the loss in the circle after surrendering seven runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks. The sophomore pitcher also struck out eight batters.
Mayfield will host Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in a nonleague contest today at 3:30 p.m.

St. Monica 11
La Salle 5

The Lancers fell to host St. Monica of Santa Monica, 11-5, last week, extending their Del Rey League losing streak to six games.
La Salle (4-10 overall, 0-6 in league) will seek its first league victory of the season at home against La Puente Bishop Amat on Tuesday, April 25, at 3:15 p.m.
