The Pasadena Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Kickoff Breakfast, one of the organization’s biggest fundraisers of the year, will be held on Friday morning, Nov. 17, in the UCLA football team’s locker room at the Rose Bowl. The unique location ties into the theme, given the UCLA-USC crosstown rivalry game will be held the following day.
Fritz Coleman of NBC-4 will serve as emcee and Steve Carlston, president and general manager NBC-4 Southern California, will be the keynote speaker.
“As football season is now in full swing, we know that our true football allegiance lies with college football and the historic rivalry between USC and UCLA,” a Salvation Army spokesman said. “College football generally marks the beginning of the festive holiday season and especially here in Pasadena. While we take time to reflect on our blessings and all the joy that the holiday season brings, there are many in our community who are not as fortunate.”
In 2016, the local Salvation Army provided 6,033 meals/food boxes; 73,905 nights of housing to men/women in recovery and low-income seniors; 688 Thanksgiving dinners served; 605 Christmas food boxes provided; 1,900 children received Christmas toys; 53 high school girls were provided a prom dress; and there were 288 weekly attendees in the organization’s after-school youth and music programs
“In support of the important mission of the Salvation Army, it is through the generosity of people that our hungry, homeless and less fortunate neighbors will be embraced and served,” a spokesman said. “The Salvation Army’s motto — ‘Doing The Most Good’ — is your assurance that your gifts are effectively and efficiently used to serve others.”
To support the Salvation Army with this event, there are various sponsorship opportunities. For more information, call Jody Davis at (626) 773-4432 or email Jody.Davis@USW.SalvationArmy.org.
