Locals Honored at NAACP Awards Dinner

The Pasadena NAACP celebrated its centennial year and the 34th Ruby McKnight Williams Awards dinner, attended by more than 300 guests, recently at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel. The Pasadena branch of the NAACP is led by President Allen Edson and the event’s co-chairpersons included Juanita West Tillman and Tommy McMullins, with Darryl Dunn serving as the honorary chair. This year’s honorees include Arzella Valentine, the Ruby McKnight Williams Award; Floyd Norman, arts award; Pablo Alvarado, community award; Washington, civic award; Yahia Abdulrahman, education award; Rabbi Marvin Gross, Imam J.D. Hall, the Rev. Kerwin Manning and Bryan Takeda, faith/cultural awards; Joe Brown, John Wright leadership award; Laura Farber, president’s award; Little Red Hen/the Shay family, small business award; and Jordan Patton, youth award. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships, ACTSO and community outreach.
