Spiritual Care Guild Oktoberfest Benefits Those in Need

Raise a stein and join the fun on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the Spiritual Care Guild of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Oktoberfest.
This year’s celebration will take place on the campus of Southwestern Academy in San Marino. The school grounds will be transformed into a German biergarten for the evening, complete with oom-pah band, stein-holding contest, beer garden with live coverage of playoff baseball and college football games, and more.
Funds raised at this event will help the Spiritual care Chaplaincy Team at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles continue to provide emotional support and comfort to patients and families as they struggle with fear and uncertainty.
Hospital chaplains lend a listening ear to young patients and families who have received a new diagnosis or have had a family member rushed to the emergency room. They stay with families at the end of life or as they sort through ethical decisions.
Chaplains provide spiritual counseling, facilitate comforting rituals and supply religious literature and items that provide patients and families comfort. They work with families of any, or no, particular faith. Last year the Spiritual Care Team reached roughly 150,000 patients and families. No family has to pay for the service of a chaplain. This important work relies largely on donations from caring people such as yourself, so we hope you will join in on the fun at our second annual Oktoberfest that benefits those in need.
The SCG Oktoberfest will be held at Southwestern Academy, 2800 Monterey Road, in San Marino. Tickets are $75 per person.
