Before heading to Kagel Canyon to begin evacuations ahead of this week’s rainstorm, Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Blasnek stopped by Tuesday’s City Council meeting to report that the flurry of burglaries that hit La Cañada Flintridge at the start of the year seems to have subsided.
“The February statistics are in, and home residential burglaries went way down to four,” said Blasnek, comparing that tally with the 14 that occurred in January. “One is too many. Temple Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested four males who authorities believe could be responsible for several residential burglaries along the 210 Freeway corridor and within the San Gabriel Valley and Foothill areas, according to a news release from the Major Crimes Bureau-Metro Detail.
“A significant arrest was made the other night of a residential burglary crew,” Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Capt. Deputies worked through the night, but their efforts were rewarded with the arrest of five suspected residential burglars this week.
The nabbing was thanks to a vigilant resident in the 400 block of Paulette Place, whose home security system was triggered at 8:19 p.m. on Tuesday while he was away and prompted him to remotely check the live feeds of his home’s security cameras. It was a silent alarm that helped San Marino Police Department apprehend two men suspected of attempting to burglarize a home in the 1200 block of Adair Street last week.
The alarm on March 16 triggered an alert that was sent to the homeowner’s cellphone, prompting him to remotely check his home security cameras and find two men trying to force their way into his home’s back door.
