Minutemen, Rebels Win Playoff Games

The Maranatha High School varsity girls’ basketball team was in a back-and-forth affair against visiting Menifee Paloma Valley in a CIF Southern Section Division 4AA second-round playoff game last Friday.
With a slim lead, Minutemen head coach Gamal Smalley knew what to say to his players during a timeout in the fourth quarter.
“I told the girls in the timeout that I had to go back to my bag of tricks,” said Smalley, who took out a quarter and held it high to show every player. “We’re just a few minutes away from getting to the quarterfinals.” Continue reading “Minutemen, Rebels Win Playoff Games”

Poly, Flintridge Prep Fall in CIF; St. Francis Moves On

The Polytechnic varsity boys’ basketball team had everything it needed to challenge visiting San Marino in a CIF Southern Section Division 4AA wild card playoff game.

San Marino Wins Wild Card, Falls in 1st Round

The San Marino High School varsity boys’ basketball team’s playoff run came to end in last Friday as the Titans fell to No. 5-seeded host Hacienda Heights Wilson, 73-58, in a CIF Southern Section Division 4AA first-round game.
The Wildcats (22-7 overall record) jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter and built a 44-21 advantage at the half.
