Construction will soon begin on a two-story office building with retail and a possible restaurant after the La Cañada Flintridge Planning Commission recently approved a project helmed by Commissioner Arun Jain.
Jain recused himself from the vote, which resulted in a 3-0 approval for a conditional use permit and variance allowing for the construction of a two-story, 6,232 square-foot building with a 5,365 square-foot basement on a three-parcel piece of land at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Young Drive totaling 13,014 square feet. A La Cañada High School student was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk at Oak Grove Avenue and Foothill Boulevard before school on Wednesday morning, according to Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Deputy Eric Matejka.
Three CV Sheriff’s deputies and personnel from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the incident, which Matejka said caused significant traffic congestion in front of the school. More than 500 La Cañada Flintridge customers were affected by a power outage on Monday afternoon, according to Southern California Edison spokeswoman Mary Ann Milbourn.

Foothill Boulevard is a shade emptier following the removal last month of four deceased redwoods in the medians of the busiest street in La Cañada Flintridge.
After an hourslong power outage closed several Foothill Boulevard businesses earlier this month, another extended outage last Friday also affected businesses along the boulevard and had La Cañada High School administrators debating whether to curtail the school day.
