La Cañada Boys Win Meet of Champions, Girls Place 15th in Team Standings

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ swimming team won the Mt. SAC Meet of Champions. The squad includes Braden Beagle, Eddie Cosic, Mark Fanelli, Juan Grases, Noah Hirshon, Thomas Hoffman, Joshua Kim, Chris O’Grady, Ryan Silva and Danny Syrkin.

The La Cañada High School varsity boys’ swimming team dominated the Meet of Champions at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut last weekend, taking home the first-place banner with 533.5 points.

Danny Syrkin had a career day for the Spartans, winning two singles races and placing among the top two in two relay events.

He won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.89 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly with 48.72 seconds.

The junior standout teamed up with Eddie Cosic, Thomas Hoffman and Chris O’Grady to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.92, establishing a new school and meet record. The quartet also competed in the 200 freestyle relay and placed second with a time of 1 minute, 24.84 seconds.
