Rotarians Earn the Bill Steele Annual Service Award

Longtime San Marino Rotarians Chris Datwyler and Bill Payne were named last week as this year’s Bill Steele Annual Service Award recipients by the club, giving them a share of the fifth year for the award.
The club made the surprise announcement at its luncheon last week, the penultimate of the service year. The award, so named for late San Marino resident and Rotarian Bill Steele, is given to club members for “outstanding and sustained service to the club by demonstrating the very best ideals of Rotary International,” according to the club’s website. Rotary Club Bestows More Than $25,000 on Teachers’ Projects

Local educators, school administrators and members of Rotary Club of San Marino assemble after the club awarded more than $25,000 in “mini-grants” for classroom projects to San Marino schoolteachers last week.

Rotary Club of San Marino last week doled out more than $25,000 to 39 San Marino-area teachers to help move 31 classroom projects forward.
The Rotary Club each year awards “mini-grants” to teachers who apply for funding from the club for specific projects. This year, the club narrowed the list from 37 projects, which the club likes to be innovative and not recurring acts; likewise, it also won’t award supply replacements.
