The odds were against the San Marino varsity football team when it faced Covina Charter Oak in the CIF Southern Section Central Division championship game in 2015, and it was no different for the Titans in their season opener on the road last Friday.
San Marino jumped out to an early lead but ultimately fell to an inspired Chargers squad, 42-3, in a nonleague contest.
Charter Oak, which was placed six divisions above SMHS, was without legendary head coach Lou Farrar for the first time in more than five decades.
