Woman Walking on Mission Drive Robbed of Jewelry, Police Say

San Marino police are investigating a report that an unidentified woman robbed an elderly city resident of gold jewelry while the victim was walking on North Mission Drive last week.
The victim flagged down a patrol officer at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, near Mission and Lorain Road, according to a San Marino Police Department news release. About a half-hour earlier, the victim said, a woman pulled up to her in a white SUV, wrapped necklaces around her neck and wrist and stole a gold Rolex watch and gold bracelet in the process.
The woman, according to SMPD, was described as heavy-set and wearing several gold-colored necklaces and bracelets as she initially approached the victim, asking her for directions to “the nearest shopping mall.” While the two talked, the victim said, the other woman began putting necklaces around her neck and then her right wrist, despite the victim’s protests.
At that point, the suspect was said to have slid off the victim’s watch and bracelet while the victim tried to stop her. The suspect returned to the SUV, possibly a Jeep or Subaru, and fled south on Mission. An unidentified man was driving the vehicle.
Police also are asking the public for any information regarding what they said was an attempted residential burglary last week.
A resident in the 2000 block of Orlando Road reported seeing four men scale a fence and enter his backyard at about 7:53 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. The resident said he then found one of the men trying to open his back door, at which point the resident chased the man to the front yard.
That suspect — described as black, having a thin build, standing about 5 feet 11 inches and wearing a hoodie with the hood pulled up — got into a dark Toyota Camry sedan that was waiting out front and fled westbound on Orlando Road to San Marino Avenue. The other men were described only as black and wearing dark hoodies.
Anyone with any information related to these incidents is urged to contact SMPD at (626) 300-0700.
