The Flintridge Prep class of 2017 recently celebrated its final milestones as students. Baccalaureate speaker John C. Reilly, whose son, Leo, is a member of the graduating class, reminded the graduates in an entertaining speech that if they do what they love, they will never work a day in their lives. The emotional commencement the following evening was capped by talks given by the elected class speaker, Haley Harris (The Benton Trophy winner), Laura Ratliff and Founders Trophy winner Elida Kocharian.
The seniors selected retiring history department chair Christine Madsen to receive the class award. Several leadership awards were given, including the Cancer Federation award for exceptional service to Christian Yeghnazar, the American Legion award to Lindsay Campbell and Cameron Wu, and the Student Leadership award to Haley Harris. The athletes of the year were Natalie O’Brien and Kendall Kikkawa, while Hanna Barakat received the Tom Fry award for demonstrating generosity of spirit and love of life.
