Door of Hope’s mission is to equip homeless families to rebuild their lives through transitional housing and comprehensive services that help families overcome the practical, financial and emotional barriers they face to make the change to permanent housing. On Saturday, May 4, Door of Hope held its Hope for the Future Spring Benefit at the home of Bill and Kathy Podley to share with supporters how Door of Hope will help end and prevent homelessness for 100 families in 2019. With 125 attendees and a generous and anonymous $150,000 matching gift, Door of Hope was able to exceed its $300,000 goal for the event. Funds will provide 13,050 meals, 798 therapy sessions, 1,631 nights of safe shelter, 300 financial counseling sessions, and prevent 30 families from becoming homeless.
Megan Katerjian, executive director, said, “We were so grateful to raise enough support to fund our new homelessness prevention program. We have seen a higher-than-anticipated demand for prevention services, with many low-income families living on the brink of homelessness. Both new and longtime supporters responded to the message that prevention, in addition to shelter programs, is an effective way to end homelessness. We are so grateful for their support!”
