The Western Justice Center recently held its annual gala and awards ceremony at the California Club. The organization honors individuals who are advocates of peace as the foundation for a more just society, as well as law firms and corporations that demonstrate a continuous support of alternative dispute resolution, public service and improving their communities. Honorees included Universal Music Group, the law firm Glaser Weil and Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of UC Berkeley’s law school.
Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour, a silent auction, dinner, a live auction and a performance of excerpts from Compassion Plays, which challenge audiences to think about their biases against others and their views on justice. The Western Justice Center (Judge Judith Chirlin is executive director) designs and implements creative programs for communities and schools that change the way people think about and respond to differences and conflict.
