The Yes, Virginia Fund Committee recently hosted its annual Classy & Sassy Boutique and Luncheon at the Altadena Town & Country Club. For more than 20 years, the Yes, Virginia Fund has raised money to support children during the holidays in the Pasadena area, operating on a unique model that gives away half the money it raises each year and invests the other half in an endowment that will sustain the grant program in perpetuity.
The fund was named after the 1897 editorial published by the New York Sun in which 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon wrote to the editor, Frank Church, to ask if there really was a Santa Claus. Church’s famous reply, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist…” has become part of popular Christmas folklore. The Yes, Virginia Fund is a fund of the Pasadena Community Foundation.
