Actor Michael Gross and his wife, Elza, recently hosted an event to raise funds for Door of Hope, an organization that provides transitional housing and supportive services to families experiencing homelessness. Gross, who emceed the event, became involved with Door of Hope when his granddaughter did her Girl Scouts Gold Award project with the organization. He helped her on the project and was touched by the work of Door of Hope.
Guests included long-time supporters and new donors, including L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who presented a check for $25,000 to Door of Hope that night and committed to do the same for the next two years.
“Hope for the Future” was the theme of the event — hope for the future of homeless families who move into permanent housing as the result of Door of Hope’s efforts, and hope for the future for Door of Hope as it launches into a new season of growth over the next three years. Funds raised from the event will be used to replace a major government grant that is ending as well as fund a new homelessness prevention program launching later this year.
